  • Abstract
Pedestrian journeys through a city are commonplace, indeed all journeys start and end as a pedestrian. However, technology that gathers pedestrian data or innovation that aims to improve the pedestrian experience is not prevalent in our current cities. Future intelligent cities should greater assist pedestrians as the most common and most sustainable mode of travel through innovative integrated technology. Pedestrians should be able to be guided by intelligent applications that use live data sources, tailoring the route to the specific needs of a particular pedestrian. Pedestrian crossings take many forms, some of which are more suited to particular pedestrian types than others or to certain junction locations due to safety or traffic capacity constraints. This paper describes a vision of innovative pedestrian provision in future intelligent cities, considering tailored journeys, pedestrian data collection and the creation of a metamorphic pedestrian crossing style.
