Engineering and technical education in Brunei Darussalam: Current status and future development

An overview and analysis of the current engineering and technical education in Brunei Darussalam is presented together with their planning and future development. Technical education is covered at certificate and diploma levels whilst engineering education is covered at degree and graduate levels including their award and accreditation systems. A brief overview of the current National Education System of Brunei Darussalam, Sistem Pendidikan Negara (SPN21) or the 21st Century National Education System, is also included for better appreciation of the levels of technical and engineering education of the nation. The paper also discusses the planning and restructuring of technical and engineering programmes leading to potential accreditation by respective professional bodies under relevant institutions signatories to the international bodies such as the Dublin, Sidney and Washington Accords.
