Abstract :
The Digital Network Manufacturing System concept assumes the integration of tools and approaches from Product Lifecycle Management, advanced manufacturing technologies, Systems Analysis and Engineering, Model-Based Engineering, and other engineering/management areas related to the development, introduction, production, and support of innovative products. This paper outlines the major features of the concept and the tool-kits that have been developed in engineering, computer science, telecommunications, technology and some other disciplines that enable its realization. The concept is based upon experience gained from the development of new products and technologies in the U.S. aerospace sector.
