Abstract
Reacting to the evolution of user´s needs toward multimedia applications, an important feature of the third generation mobile networks is to support efficiently multiple applications with different quality of service. In the radio access networks of UMTS, RLC/MAC layers are designed to accommodate simultaneously mixed services through establishing multiple bearers. A major issue is the rate adaption of these bearers. In this paper, we examine the scheduling problem in the WCDMA MAC layer and propose five scheduling methods. Our simulation result shows that a load measurement based priority method can achieve better fairness and has better execution time performance than the other four methods.
