  • Abstract
Integration of fixed and portable wireless access into IP networks presents a cost effective and efficient way to provide seamless end-to-end connectivity and ubiquitous access in a market where demands on mobile Internet have grown rapidly and predicted to generate billions of dollars in revenue. The deployment of broadband IP-based technologies over dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) and integration of IP with broadband wireless access networks (BWANs) is becoming increasingly important. This paper covers an introduction to Internet delivery over future wireless networks and the explanation of mobile IP for cellular networks. It addresses characteristics of the Internet and its mobility features and how it could guarantee QoS using wireless IP services. In addition, satellites play an important role in providing mobility in the Internet services. Global solutions could be reached with integration of satellites with terrestrial providers. Together they can expand businesses in e-commerce and trading for many years to come. This paper addresses the impact of mobility, roaming, session establishment and management, location management and handoff algorithms on current protocols. It also presents concepts of routing, quality-of-service provisioning and security, baseline architecture of the internetworking protocols and end to end traffic management issues such as flow and congestion control. It addresses the mapping of IP protocols at the wireless interfaces and elements of the design of efficient wireless Internet services. Current standardization efforts are summarized
