Abstract :
A methodology for implementing robust and performance oriented adaptive control has been previously developped and tested on a variety of industrial plants and benchmarks (ACC 88, ACC 89). A software EXPERT-AD on PC is available for direct use in real-time applications and simulatons. The adaptive control methodology used combine on one hand control laws based on minimization of a quadratic criterion and on the poles placement and on the other hand uses a robust estimator. The objective of this paper is to present in the first part a tutorial on the general purpose adaptive control. In the second part a description of biotechnological fermentation plant class is presented with the corresponding adaptive control design.
