Abstract
Using experience gained from a number of rail and transit projects the authors discuss how the engineering practices used throughout the lifecycle of a large, modern infrastructure programme affect the delivery and transfer into service of infrastructure assets and describe one particular, pragmatic approach which has enabled Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to successfully introduce a number of new services on what is now the UK´s largest tram network.
