Abstract
Mobile IP was developed to enable mobile appliances, such as notebook computers, mobile phones and other devices, to maintain Internet connectivity while moving from one Internet attachment point to another. In Mobile IP, a user is connected to one or more applications across the Internet, the user´s point of attachment changes dynamically, and all connections are automatically maintained despite the change. Mobile IP can work with both wired and wireless connections. However, it is particularly suited to wireless connections. The paper describes the basic technique for the deployment of Mobile IP, and presents some of the preliminary works on IPv6, in general, and on Wireless, or Mobile, IPv6, conducted by UiTM, Jaring and other organizations in Malaysia. UiTM, in collaboration with Jaring, had earlier set up an experimental IPv6 network. Jaring and other service providers then formed My6, to pursue research and development in Wireless, or Mobile, IPv6.
