Abstract
Surface wind fields over the ocean can be estimated from synthetic aperture radars (SAR) data using an empirical model relating the radar cross section to the wind speed and a prescribed wind direction. Results are presented for a ERS SAR image acquired on April 7th, 1998 over the Gulf of Lion (Mediterranean Sea) during the FETCH experiment. A comparison with data collected during the campaign is presented
