Abstract
New wireless technologies allow mobile nodes to move while communicating. Movement management is performed at different layers: at the 1ink layer for the change of access point and at the network layer for the change of IP subnet. New optimized proposals suggest to use infonnation from the link layer, called Link Hints, to enhance network layer management. Link Hints and their parameters are going to be standardized at the IETF1 to enhance interactions between. link and network layers. This stardardization will allow a mobile node to integrate and efficiently manage one or even several network interfaces and will allow an access router to better manage nodes attachement and movements in wireless access networks. This document provides our proposition of standardization currently under discussion at the IETF.
