  • Abstract
Long Term Evolution has been set good performance requirements that rely on physical layer technologies, such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing and Multiple-Input Multiple-Output systems, Smart Antennas, to achieve many applications. Intelligent Transportations Systems is one of those applications. The solution that has emerged, concerned the use of the technology Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks, with IEEE 802.11p as standard. But this paper deals with the Uplink operations of Long Term Evolution under various network conditions and various network parameter values in vehicular environment. In a complementary manner, it shows that, Long Term Evolution Uplink Model can meet the Intelligent Transportations Systems requirements both in terms of latency and capacity, and in some cases to outperform the 802.11p standard. The clear image of Long Term Evolution Uplink Model behavior during network operation through the comparison with IEEE 802.11p provides a useful guide for anticipating the best performance standards´ when the network´s parameters change. The comparison of the two standards, their strong and weak point, introduce an innovative Long Term Evolution Uplink model, for operations in the vehicular environment and propose the most promising areas for further research.
