Abstract :
This paper provides a method for predicting the accumulation of timing jitter in a digital transmission system. Earlier research concentrated on either of two principal sources of timing jitter - regenerative repeaters or pulse-stuffing multiplexer/demultiplexers - as separate entities. Here, the timing jitter accumulation is analyzed from source to sink with almost any sequential combination of repeater chains, multiplexers, switches and demultiplexers. The timing jitter analysis provided by this paper can be used to predict the jitter accumulation in various system configurations to predict the most jitter effective sequence of elements.
