Abstract :
The impact of emerging regulations on tonnage, safety, and environmental aspects of research vessel operations and the unique nature of payload and operational capabilities drive research vessel design. In this paper, the application of a physics-based mathematical model as a tool for the design of research vessels is described. The model designated PASS for “Parametric Analysis of Ship Systems” is used to investigate the available design space for new, medium endurance oceanographic research vessels for both coastal and open ocean research
