Abstract :
The authors are trying to make an artificial density current and to agitate a water area very widely for the purpose of purifying a stratified and polluted water. The density current generator which sucks and mixes the waters of upper and lower layer and discharges middle density water into the middle layer has been developed by the authors. In order to design the density current generator which is effective and matches well to a certain environment, it is substantially important to know the amount of entrainment with a density current. But there are almost no data about it. In this paper, the authors report the measurement of the amount of the 3-dimensional density current which is generated by both the model density current generator in an experiment tank and the full scale in the sea. Furthermore, the CFD analysis is carried out. From these results, they can know that the amount of the entrainment, which is almost 10 times of the amount of discharging water from the generator, is significantly great
