  • Abstract
    A silicon partial-rib waveguide polarization rotator is designed, fabricated and characterized. The rotator, which consists of an asymmetric rib waveguide and a nano-taper waveguide, is suitable to simultaneous fabrication with a silicon optical modulator. The rotator has low excess loss of 0.5-1.5 dB and polarization extinction ratio higher than 10 dB in 1500-1600 nm.
