Abstract :
Semiconductor laser preamplified (LA-PIN) optical receivers utilise a PIN receiver and a semiconductor laser preamplifier to achieve better sensitivities and gain bandwidth products than those of APD receivers. This paper compares the performance of a selection of LA-PIN receivers at bit rates up to 8 Gbit/s relative to APD designs
