Abstract :
Electricity generation is one of the major contributors in the emissions of Green house gases and is also responsible for the associated climate change challenges of this globe. Moreover, the energy sector is faced with the challenge of widening gap between electricity demand and supply, while generation of energy would increase the tariff and would also add to environment contamination. It is vital to reduce the greenhouse gases emission share of electricity generation. Demand Side Management (DSM) is one of the effective solutions for overcoming environmental challenges. In this paper, a smart Demand Side Controller (DSC) conceptual design is proposed for peak shifting of electrical load ripples to off peak hours. Operation of DSC is explained with block diagrams along with economical and ecological considerations. This technique would allow consumers to operate their high priority loads even in peak hours and would help the utility company to minimize their losses at the same time. This smart DSC includes digital meters that can be further modified to integrate smart meters in DSC. The idea is to achieve better load management and utilization of electricity but also play a significant role in the realization of the green concept of world.
