Abstract :
Recent advances in experimental techniques in biology have resulted in a tremendous explosion in the amount of "raw data" available to the life sciences community. The challenge of computational biology is to turn this "raw data" into "information." In this paper, we review some of the many challenging problems in computational biology that are amenable to treatment using a systems approach. Though computational methods have a role to play in practically all aspects of the drug discovery process, attention is restricted here to just two areas, namely: genomics and proteomics. The list of references contains citations of sources of other problems to which the systems approach could be applied.
