Abstract
This paper addresses aspects of intelligent network (IN) service deployment, particularly its consequences for public switched telephone network (PSTN) and signalling (SS7) network planning. Dimensioning of the general network in an IN environment, IN special links and IN nodes is considered. Facilities and capacity in both the PSTN and the SS7 network are involved in IN service provisioning. If there is a lack of resources, congestion arises and the quality of service can be degraded for the new services and for already existing services. Since new IN services are supposed to be implemented with a short delay, the effects of this traffic in the network infrastructure and performances are examined for network management and short term plans
