Abstract
This paper investigates in a microcellular set-up the behavior of a new class of dynamic channel allocation policies, tailored to provide different QoS degrees to distinct user classes of a wireless system. The performance achieved by a network employing these schemes is evaluated in terms of call blocking, taking into account the requirements raised by multi-rate applications. Some design criteria effective to optimize the management of the scarce radio resources are furnished and the goal of providing radio users with both low and high speed connections, suitable for a basic set of audio and video applications, is achieved
