Abstract :
The mechanism for exciting surface electromagnetic waves by a modulated flow (bunch) of charged particles intersecting a boundary of different media is considered in this paper. At that the modulated bunch is a set of spatial harmonics of the potential field with a given frequency. When the wave vector of the harmonic of this field coincides with the wave vector of the surface wave, the partial transformation of the kinetic energy of the bunch into the wave energy takes place.
