Abstract
Chinese woodblock new year print is the carrier of traditional culture. It is so fantastic that it has become the head of folk fine arts. In a world of industrialization, globalization and urbanization, it is urgent to protect woodblock new year prints with long history. This paper has proposed some protecting methods based on the digital technology. With the help of advanced 3D scanners and 3D printers, we can permanently protect the precious ancient woodblocks; with the application of image processing technology, we can give new lives to those new year paintings which are already out of print. This paper, based on the protection of the essence of new year prints, puts forward four directions of development: the use of classic images, modern products design with rich traditional culture, image processing of the styles of Chinese woodblock new year prints and the experience and participation in the new year culture. The study of this paper aims at helping to protect and inherit Chinese woodblock new year prints and other folk arts.
