Abstract
In this paper, a genetic fuzzy neural network for pattern recognition is proposed by applying genetic algorithms to the Kwan-Cai fuzzy neural network (1990). A genetic-guided self-organizing learning algorithm is capable of reducing the number of fuzzy neurons and increasing recognition rates for the fixed number of output neurons. The simulations have indicated that the genetic fuzzy neural network can effectively recognize various distorted patterns with good recognition rates
