  • Abstract
    To shorten the product development cycle, reduce costs and improve design quality, a product development process improvement approach based on benchmarking was put forward. According to the working principle of benchmarking, the improvement objective of development process was systematically analyzed and the corresponding key effecting factor system was established. The improvement steps were illustrated and were applied to an actual highway design process. Finally, the implementation issues deserving attention were summarized. Practice showed that this approach can effectively find out key effecting factors on the improvement objective and then derive reasonable improvement strategy from best practice analysis.
