Abstract :
An algorithm to perform maximum likelihood (ML) timing estimation for continuous phase modulation (CPM) is proposed. It is shown, that a relatively simple basis function representation of several commonly used CPM signals, yields an approximate ML timing solution performing close to the lower bound for any unbiased estimator.
