  • Abstract
Electromagnetic propagation through sparse distribution of lossy dielectric particles in rain is investigated. A mathematical model is developed to aid in the interpretation of the interaction data obtained by electromagnetic remote probing of rain. Attenuation, phase and equivalent permittivity of rain are computed, for waves passing through raindrops of specified size, shape and distributions. Computer simulation which is based on the model proposed is compared with the experimental data, and excellent agreement obtained.
