Abstract
In this paper the author summarizes the rationale for considering optical interconnects to silicon CMOS chips, presents recent results on chip-to-chip interconnects using hybrid-attached quantum well devices, discusses key issues such as latency in optical interconnects, and shows the radical potential of short optical pulses for clock injection, skew and jitter removal, and wavelength-division multiplexed interconnects.
