The turtle and the hare or the future of broadcasting

Like the hare, the present technology, frequently behaves as if the turtle did not exist. It rushes ahead, changes directions, investigates hastily some side tracks, then unexpectedly doses off in the middle of a road which seemed to be promising. In the meantime, the broadcaster, like the turtle, painfully tries to catch-up with that infernal pace. Unfortunately, unlike the ending of the old fable, the turtle here does not stand any chance. However, for many years one has witnessed and participated in a steady, but rather linear development of broadcasting technology. The improved possibilities of modern technology, the desire to overcome limitations imposed by the fact that the basic parameters of the present day television systems were set in the thirties and sixties, and the competitiveness in the broadcasting arena, have brought a multiplicity of possible options for the future. The author discusses their options and mentions some of the possible solutions that can be adopted.
