Abstract
Real traffic flows are captured in various network environments, such as academic, core, dial-up, transit, and leased line. Their statistical properties are analyzed. IAT (Inter-Arrival Time Histogram) histograms, IAT cumulative distribution probabilities, packet size cumulative distribution probabilities, the influence of traffic aggregation on burstiness, and burstiness for each traffic type are shown. As traffic source models base on empirical distributions of real traffic are becoming increasingly popular for simulations of network and network element performance, analyses contained in this paper make a solid basis for such models of telecommunication traffic.
