Abstract :
In the paper by McAuley (1994), a new family of error detection codes called Weighted Sum Codes was proposed. In another paper by Farkas (1995), it was shown that it is possible to use these codes for an error correction of one error in the codeword over GF(2/sup (h/2)/). In the paper by Farkas and Rakus (1999), a weight spectra of Generalized Weighted Sum Codes (GWSC-II) for erasure correction constructed over GF(8) were presented. An attempt to improve erasure correction capabilities of these codes were investigated by Rakus (2002). In the presented paper we introduce a new high-rate [56,49,5] code constructed over GF(8) for erasure correction found using computer search.
