  • Abstract
    The aim of a present research was the investigation of an advanced solid-state laser medium Nd/sup 3+/:SrWO/sub 4/ and its application in a newly built coherently pumped Nd/sup 3+/:SrWO/sub 4/ Raman laser. Strontium tungstate crystal has an intense A/sub g/ Raman mode that corresponds to symmetrical vibrations of molecular ionic (WO/sub 4/)/sup -2/ groups and the SRS-active mode frequency /spl Omega//sub R/ equals to 921 cm/sup -1/. Further it was found that SrWO/sub 4/ crystal can be doped with Nd/sup 3+/ ions and laser operation at /sup 4/F/sub 3/2//spl rarr/4I/sub 11/2/ optical transition corresponding to wavelength 1056 nm can be achieved. It means that the crystal Nd/sup 3+/:SrWO/sub 4/ combine SRS and laser properties simultaneously in the same active medium. Properties of fundamental laser operation and simultaneously generated stimulated Raman radiation in the new SRS-active neodymium doped SrWO/sub 4/ crystal were investigated for the case of coherent pumping of Nd:SrWO/sub 4/crystal by alexandrite laser radiation.
