Benefits of automatic identification system within framework of river information services

The paper deals with the framework architecture of the river information services, the main objectives and the application design. Three RIS information levels and the vessel traffic services were explained and the benefits of using AIS within these services were given. The functionality of inland AIS was defined and compared to the maritime standard.
