Internet-based monitoring and control of protective relays and disturbance recorders

This paper describes automatic data transfer from digital relays and disturbance recorders to the "protective relay monitoring centre". In addition, the Internet is used to access relay and disturbance recorders data as well as data in the event database. When an event occurs in the power system the developed software logs the event in the database and sends an SMS note to the protection engineer who is on duty. This way the information regarding the event in the power system is provided immediately. Consequently, a higher availability of the entire power system is achieved since devices can be monitored and accessed wherever the Internet is available.
