Abstract
This article introduces a case study on building an automated tennis coach in the area of connectionist methods for data analysis and modelling of human sporting activities. The main part of the article proposes automatic extraction of the region of interest (ROI) from multidimensional time series representing human motion. Using this method with off-line learning on a small test data set this research demonstrates that it is possible to build a small-scale prototype of an automated tennis coach that can provide simple feedback on players´ technique. In the process this study shows that the automated ROI selection method presented in this article was able to detect 100% of ROIs from the test data.
