Abstract
Details of an analytical approach, based on an analogy with Petri nets, to the modeling and control of systems which are discrete by nature-the so called discrete events dynamical systems (DEDSs)-are presented. The DEDSs change their states owing to asynchronous discrete events, and many of their elementary subactivities, e.g., elementary operation of flexible manufacturing systems, may be concurrent.
