Abstract
An arc plasma is assumed to be an ideal gas comprising neutral and partially ionized elementary particles. If their individual properties and the interaction functions between them are known, macroscopic characteristics of the plasma can be determined. They are then applied to simulate the electrical characteristics of an arc, burning in a narrow quartz-sand channel in fuse elements at short-circuit current breaking.
