Abstract
In this paper, a method is presented for detection and restoration of local defects such as blotches in old motion picture films. We use the predictive diamond search which is an accurate and a fast motion estimation method for detecting defects with a minimal error by taking into account scene transitions and then the exampler-based inpainting method which combines the benefit provided by texture synthesis and image inpainting for restoring defects detected. We demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm using artificially corrupted and real image sequences
