Abstract :
The authors apply the evaluation-interpolation techniques of A. Toom (1963) to approximate polynomial division with a non-vanishing remainder. Surprisingly, this elementary technique immediately leads us to the same computations and to the same record parallel complexity estimates for this problem, O/sub A/(log m,m), as do far more sophisticated algorithms. The authors approach enables them to simplify the approximation error analysis too.
