  • Abstract
A newly developed vector controller for synchronous motors and its design concept are presented. The vector controller is designed to have the inverse dynamics of the synchronous motor. As a result, the motor torque and the flux are controlled with high accuracy and good transient response. The structure of the controller corresponds to the physical properties of the synchronous motor. Each parameter in the controller, therefore, has an apparent physical significance, which enables a simple parameter setting. The adjustable speed control system which improves the input power factor is also described, and its validity is verified by computer simulation and experiments. The input power factor is greatly improved in the proposed drive system and the maximum power of the equipment is reduced.
