Abstract :
It has been shown that information transmission from the pre to the post-synaptic neurons involves releasing specific pre-synaptic chemical messages (tokens) called transmitters (t) to binding defined post-synaptic molecules (tokens) called receptors (r). This t/r binding activates, in turn, some other postsynaptic molecules called controllers (c), whose purpose is to exercise some action upon the neuronal economy. The fuzzy neuron may be considered as an computational agent able to exchange messages with other neurons. In this line of reasoning the brain may be understood as distributed intelligent processing system, reasoning by means of message exchange among their elements. The purpose of the present paper is to introduce these ideas by discussing pattern recognition supported by a distributed intelligent sensory system.
