Abstract :
The encoder rate is given for general stationary random fields and in particular, for Gibbs fields. The author considers a (discrete finite state) stationary random field as an information source. With the aid of the ergodic decomposition the author obtains a proper formula for the encoder rate (the result is a generalization of those in Janzura, 1983, and Winkelbauer, 1964.
