Abstract :
In contrast to the mainstream approach where mobile devices have two states: connected or not-connected, we analyse mobile database replication in a setting with three states: good connection, reasonable connection and no connection. Using this as our starting point, we develop a new approach to data replication which is able to take advantage of the capabilities of the different connection alternatives. As a result of this approach, mobile devices can better utilize the available connection and are capable of optimizing for different goals such as availability and cost. Implementation details as well as experiences with a prototype implementation are also discus
