Abstract
Advanced and more complex data services as well as increasing voice applications in telecommunication systems have driven the significant increase of requirement for high-speed wireless connectivity. Major broadband wireless access technologies (WiFi, WiMAX/OFDMA, 3G/WCDMA) are converging ultimately allowing global access and seamless roaming to end-user. Broadband wireless access (BWA) along with evolving mobile Internet and multimedia services is driving the recent surge of research and development activities for future improvements in wireless communication systems. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) techniques are emerging as major enhancements for future BWA systems providing further increase in spectral efficiency and data rates. The focus of this paper is on different MIMO/OFDM implementation trends, benefits and strategies
