Abstract :
Multiple description (MD) coding is well-matched to transmission over parallel erasure channels. However, most MD design approaches assume that the channels are independent. In this paper, we examine the effect of channel correlation on the performance of a particular MD scheme, and illustrate that the optimum is usually not achieved for independent channels.
