Abstract
The simplicity of the least mean square (LMS) algorithm and ease of implementation make it the algorithm of the first choice in many real-time systems. This paper presents an equalizer initialization technique convenient for LMS. Prior to training the technique sets the equalizer coefficients according to a coarse adjustment of the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion by using the estimated channel impulse response (CIR). Thus, the slow convergence and poor error performance of the LMS algorithm have been significantly improved. This study presents the implementation issues and obtained real time performances of the proposed initialization technique by using the implemented experimental test bench equipped with TI C6x DSP.
