Abstract :
The paper presents results of study of application of a matrix converter as a power electronic unit for high-speed generators (15.000 - 40.000) rpm. Such generators are use in small gas power plants to improve total efficiency. A matrix converter should convert high frequency generator voltages to parameters of a commercial grid - 3x400V, 50Hz with the neutral. To improve output voltages, multi-phase generators are designed and a special control strategy is used to fulfill by a matrix converter a role of a cycloconverter. Main attention in this paper is putting on asymmetrical regimes, which occur very often in commercial low-voltage gird. Results of preliminary investigations show, that matrix converters can work also in such conditions but a proper choice of the number of generator´s phases is necessary.
