  • Abstract
Doctoral studies play an important linking role between the arising European higher education area and the European research area. Due to a broad diversity of doctoral studies in 46 signatory countries of Bologna process the convergence in this field requires a very sensitive approach. Although the significant number of countries implemented doctoral studies as the third cycle of the scheme 3-5-8 a further broad discussion is needed concerning the future development of doctoral studies in EHEA. After the brief introductory remarks concerning the doctoral studies in the fame of Bologna process the example of the arrangement of PhD studies at FEI STU Bratislava (Slovakia) is briefly presented in the paper.
