Abstract
A novel AC-to-DC full-bridge converter combines the functions of input current shaping, galvanic isolation and fast output regulation into a single stage. This is made possible by using two magnetic amplifiers in series with the input inductor to provide near unity power factor performance, while the fast output voltage regulation is provided independently through PWM modulation of the bridge switches. The overall function of this topology is to provide light weight and efficient processing of the AC electric power with unity power factor and fast output regulation in a single converter. Experimental results are presented to verify a novel method of input current shaping with magnetic amplifiers.
