Abstract
This paper presents the numerical modeling of the coupled electromagnetic and thermal fields for a controlled solidification process. First, the raw material, siluminum, is heated till the melting point, obtaining a homogenous liquid using electromagnetic stirring. Next, through several steps, the crucible is lower with a constant speed from the inductor into the cooling system. Thus, we obtain a controlled cooling of the material in the crucible, leading to a homogenous internal structure of the material, without impurities or internal stresses. The numerical modeling of the solidification process is divided into four steps, one for heating, two for heating and cooling and one only for cooling.
