Abstract :
The Reed-Solomon encoder/decoder is discussed that uses TMS32010 and was tested using a laboratory setup developed to simulate a coded communication system with additive Gaussian noise. Two encoder/decoder schemes are utilized: time domain encoding with errors-only hybrid-domain decoding, and frequency-domain encoding with frequency-domain, errors-and-erasures decoding. The field of operations is specified as GF(2/sup 4/), and software is written for (15,k) RS codes, where k is chosen from five possible values corresponding to error correction capabilities of t=1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. The achievable data rates vary between 16 kb/s and 80 kb/s, depending on the code and decoding algorithm.
